The season for roses

After such lovely rain over recent months, roses are blooming everywhere in our local gardens.

It’s floriferous here too, with all the roses in our Autumn Rose Border – in the memorial area – lush and colourful. I picked a large bunch of them today and arranged them in a crystal rose bowl so they could be enjoyed indoors. Most of these roses were planted quite a few years ago. Those visible by the picket fence are (from left) – “That’s Life”, “Grace”, “St. Patrick”, “Emilien Guillot”, “Troilus”. and “Teasing Georgia”.

The new circular bed, with its central statue, is looking superb too. I was mowing in that area this morning. It’s something I really enjoy, because it gives me an opportunity to view all the plants. This new bed has developed well since it was planted in July. Even the miniature day lilies near the edge are beginning to flower now – there’s the first one, with its orange-red flower, visible near the plaque.
